CA. (Dr.) Debashis Mitra, Senior Partner 

A professional with strong academic leaning, CA. (Dr.) Debashis Mitra, was elected as the President of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) for the year 2022-23. Serving his third term in the Council of ICAI, he has been serving the accounting profession for more than thirty-five years. Dr. Mitra, a senior practicing member, is also a Cost Accountant, Company Secretary, holds a Master’s degree in Commerce, Law graduate and a qualified Information Systems Auditor. With keen interest in academic research, he is a Ph.D. on the topic “A Critical Study of Select Indian GAAP, US GAAP & IAS / IFRS”.

He is presently the Chairman of the Expert Advisory Committee of ICAI and also Chairman of Corporate Laws & Corporate Governance Committee of ICAI. He is presently on the Board of Indian Institute of Insolvency Professionals of ICAI (IIIPI).  He is a nominee of ICAI on the Committee of Ministry of Corporate Affairs for Simplification of Companies Rules and LLP Rules under the policy for pre-legislative consultation. He is also a Member of Eastern Regional Board for Certificate Courses for Accountants of Panchayats & Municipal Bodies being carried out jointly by CAG and ICAI. Dr. Mitra is a member of the Sustainability Reporting Standards Board of ICAI and played a stellar role in developing the Sustainability Reporting Standards in India. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of Assam Downtown University.

Debashis Mitra was till recently the Director of ICAI Registered Valuers Organisation (RVO). He was also Chairman of the ICAI Research wing, ICAI – Accounting Research Foundation as well as Chairman of Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) India. He is one of the Founder Directors of Institute of Social Auditors of India. He was also a Board Member of Insurance Regulatory & Development Authority (IRDA) and Member of SEBI’s Primary Market Advisory Committee.

As an accomplished professional having immense knowledge of trade and industry, he has served as an active member of several prestigious Boards, forums and institutions in India, viz., Quality Review Board established by Govt. of India. He also represented ICAI in Uday Kotak Committee on Corporate Governance set up by Securities & Exchange Board of India as well as the Committee set up by Ministry of Corporate Affairs for revision in Companies Auditors’ Report Order. He has also served as the Amicus Curiae to the National Company Law Tribunal. 

On international front, he represents ICAI on the International Relations Committee of South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA). Besides, he is on the Board of Chartered Accountants Worldwide (CAW).   He was the Chairman of Committee on Education, Training and CPD of SAFA and member of Audit Group of Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA). He has also served as member of SAFA Committee on Auditing Standards and Quality Control. He was also the Technical Advisor in the Board of International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).

A persuasive and intense trainer, he is renowned for his interactive deliberations in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Corporate Laws. He has trained many officials of several corporate and non-corporate entities as well as Central and State governmental organizations. An avid speaker, he passionately shares his deep and incisive knowledge in India & abroad at various events organised by ICAI, trade organisations and other reputed Institutes.

Dr. Mitra has also served as the Chairman of the Eastern India Regional Council of ICAI as well as Guwahati Branch of ICAI.

He is a former President of Rotary Club of Calcutta, the oldest running Rotary Club in Asia, as well as former National President of The Institute of Internal Auditors (India).

CA. Diptendra Nath Dutt has been a Chartered Accountant for more than 34 years. He has extensive experience in Banking having served a Nationalised Bank for more than 30 years.

CA. Madhusudan Paul has been a member of ICAI since 1971. He has extensive experience in Rural sector Audit. He has served in a public sector undertaking in the Jute sector for more than 29 years.

CA. Shreerupa Basu Das has extensive experience of working in the Banking Sector. She spent a number of years in London working with Banks. She looks after the Concurrent Audit assignments of the firm.
